About Nick

Eager, curious, passionate, and genuine, Nick embodies Thump in everything he does. A Wheat Ridge, CO native & powerhouse lacrosse player, he recently retired from the PLL and is honing his passion for the sport into coaching for Clinic Sports. A four-year Notre Dame Lacrosse letter winner, NCAA All American, MLL Champion, and successful PLL player, it’s clear Nick puts passion into everything he does. In his player retirement, he’s finding stoke in curiosity, learning new things, and finding what means the most to him. One of those things is good people. That’s what excites him about Thump - the people. The first time he stepped foot in Bend in early 2021, he was immediately drawn to Thump because of his initial conversations with the leadership team. In Nick’s words, “What Thump brings to the table is a reason for good people to get together. Eager to get back is an understatement.”

What gets you stoked?

My stoke is rooted in my curiosity. There’s an entire world of cultures, hobbies, and experiences out there that I’m completely unaware of but have a drive to know more about. I know nothing about coffee - having the Thump crew help me notice the notes of blueberry in the Ethiopian blend at my first cupping. I know nothing about mountain biking - having my brother in law Gary Paasch help keep my elbows up as I land my first jump in Hood River. I know nothing about Oregon ecosystems - having my sisters Elle and Gianna help me find Morel Mushrooms on a hike. None of these are necessarily related, but all of them are so fascinating to me and drive me to learn & experience more. That initial discovery of a world I was unaware of is my ultimate stoke. Combine that with learning from a passionate and patient expert, and that’s what I try to bring to lacrosse every day I coach & play.

What does “genuine” mean to you?

Genuine is simple to accomplish and complicated to explain. To me, it means wanting the people in whatever room you are in to be comfortable with who they are as a person. Every person has their own opinions, experiences, and interests. All of them have something to add to the conversation. I touched on curiosity earlier, but I will bring it up again now. When you realize everyone’s story is fascinating and take an interest in it, a real interest, it allows them to be comfortable telling you about their passions, dreams, fears, achievements, and failures. Whether it’s a deep conversation or not that’s what genuine means to me. Being a good enough person to allow others to be vulnerable with you.
